Toothcation Dental Price Index

How the index is built

Each figure is the median across clinics, in US dollars. Every clinic counts once, at the median of the prices it publishes on its own website for that procedure. A city appears once at least 3 clinics publish a price for that procedure, and the clinic count sits next to it. The middle range runs from the 25th to the 75th percentile, so a quarter of the prices sit below it and a quarter above.

Prices we flag as implausible, marketing lines, repeat listings of the same page and price, and referral sites are left out. US figures are typical national prices from the ADA Health Policy Institute and FAIR Health fee data, as summarized by FindTheNorm. What a price includes varies by clinic, so confirm it with the clinic before you travel.

Use of the data

Free to cite with a link to toothcation.com. The CSV has one row per city and procedure, with the columns city, country, procedure, median_usd, n_clinics, p25, p75, us_typical_low, us_typical_high and last_checked. Download it here.
